Wimbledon semi-finalist Elina Svitolina has been getting quite the attention after her wonderful display at the recently played Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships. She has been making rounds in the headlines of the major newspapers every once in a while now and has also been giving away interviews for fun.

Svitolina is now playing at the ongoing Citi Open. She has already made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament with her first match set to take place against fourth seed Jessica Pegula on Friday. Ahead of the match, she talked about how she likes to play a classy game of tennis without wanting the crowd to get into it too much. The Ukrainian said that it affects the decorum of the match citing the example of Roger Federer.

She added, “Sometimes the first reaction is very natural for me because when you make a good shot, you’re naturally happy and satisfied with that shot because you really tried it or took a risk. The first reaction is therefore natural. Then, I don’t really like it when players demand more from the public. I feel like that’s a bit too much. Of course, when it’s a shot around the post or something like that, it’s incredible, maybe, but we’ve never seen Roger Federer do that. I think it’s, I don’t know, maybe a bit too much.” (H/T: WLT)

It’s no secret that Gael Monfils and Federer share a great friendship off the court. They have also been seen taking friendly digs over one another whenever possible. Both the stars were once arch-rivals but that developed into a very beautiful friendship. Svitolina too got acquainted with the Swiss legend through her husband. Every once in a while Federer is with Monfils and Svitolina, in a video, which proves their familiarity with one another.

In one of the videos, Svitolina challenged Federer over a funny but interesting task that involved mis-hitting Monfils. Svitolina completed the task quite well striking the ball fiercely but succeeded in mishitting her husband. When it was Roger’s turn, he looked shaky and puzzled. He went on to hit his friend right in his third shot. Both Svitolina and Federer joined in a laugh with Monfils lying on his knees in pain which summed up a great relationship between the tennis trio.
