One of those couples is Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils. The famed tennis star has given insights about the difficult decision she and her husband made of leaving her daughter Skai behind.
When asked about her daughter’s absence, Elina explained the reason behind leaving her daughter back home. “We decided for the sake of her health to leave her at home, unfortunately. We miss her really much because this is like the last push now. It’s been one month now that we haven’t seen her. We FaceTime every single day. But, yeah, it’s not easy,” revealed Svitolina. They had brought Skai with them for the French Open, but it was very evident about the difficulties they were facing in balancing between work and daughter.
This is an example of the kind of sacrifice players have to make to play tournaments. Elina, as a first-time mother, has been facing these difficulties and trying to manage the workload of being a mother as well as a famed tennis player.

During an interview, Svitolina opened up about the challenges of balancing motherhood with her career as a tennis player. Juggling responsibilities alongside her husband, they navigate the demands of both professions while caring for their daughter. Svitolina shared with the press that at Roland Garros, she had to structure her day around her daughter’s nap time, which unfortunately resulted in limited time spent with her.
“In the end, I don’t see her as much as I wish. So that’s why in the end we decided to leave her at home. We have a team who is taking care of her, as well, so she’s super safe at home,” said the world number 22.
Elina Svitolina and her husband, Gael, are both professional players focused on their games and hoping to do well in the US Open. Both of them won their first-round matches and have successfully ended up in round 2. The power couple has shown their commitment to the sport by sacrificing a lot.
