The No. 19 seed, Elina Svitolina, is forced to retire from the Round of 16 match of the Australian Open. This meant that the Czech teenager Linda Noskova advanced to the first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinals of her career. The match started off well for Noskova, as she earned three straight points in her first half.

Falling behind 2-0, the Ukrainian took a medical timeout while her trainer attended to her back injury. Svitolina lost the next game again, making it 3-0 for Linda Noskova, and eventually called off the match.

The Ukrainian was in superb form going into the match. She was still to drop a set in this Australian Open. However, injuries had other fates for World No. 19. Even before the Grand Slam, she started off the season with utmost dominance, reaching the finals of the ASB Classic, where she lost to young talent Coco Gauff

The Czech professional earned a huge win over top-seed Iga Swiatek on Saturday. After losing the first set of the match, the 19-year-old came back strongly to beat Swiatek in the next two sets to clinch the match.

She would be taking on Dayana Yastremska in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. The match is scheduled for Tuesday. Yastremska, too, will have her confidence high as she beat two-time Australian Open title winner Victoria Azarenka on Monday.
