Ukrainian tennis player, Elina Svitolina has a whooping 17 WTA Tour titles to her name. The former world number had a good run at the recently held US Open. She was ousted from the tournament following her loss to the current World No.3, Jessica Pegula in the third round.
The Ukrainian No.1 has established the Elina Svitolina Foundation with the aim of supporting talented youngsters and developing sports and tennis in the country. The Foundation also holds the ‘Elina Svitolina Tennis Camp’ annually. The 5th edition of the camp, however, was held in the Polish town of Leszno instead of Ukraine.
The former World No.3 surprised the young players at the ES Tennis Camp that was held in Leszno, Poland this year instead of Ukraine. The junior players had absolutely no idea about Svitolina’s arrival. Her visit was kept a secret from the camp’s players and was not announced on social media.
For the second time in a row, the annual tennis camp was held by the Elina Svitolina Foundation on foreign soil. Last year, the camp was hosted in Sozopol, Bulgaria where nine Ukrainian players were trained for ten days by tennis coaches, fitness trainers and psychologists.
Elina Svitolina to partner with husband, Gael Monfils for mixed doubles?
Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina make for one of the sweetest tennis couples. Both players are incredibly supportive of each other as well as their careers and often train together ahead of big events or tournaments.
When Monfils was questioned about the possibility of him teaming up with his wife to take part in a tournament as a mixed doubles pair, the player replied that he too would like to experiment with the idea someday. “Why not? You know, why not play mixed doubles once? Why not? But the thing is, it’s hard for me to play singles and doubles. But I have a feeling that when it’s over, I’ll try to play doubles. And I hope it won’t be next year,” Monfils said.
