The WTA Finals have finally commenced, and we have all the winners for the end-of-year competition. In the doubles department, sixth seed Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva got the better of their opponents in the finals. They beat the impressive sixth-seeded duo of Ellen Perez and Nicole Melichar-Martinez by a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4.

However, it was the Australian, Perez, who was not impressed with the unprofessional behavior of Siegemund during the match. Ellen Perez was due to play her first match at the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup, but due to the weather conditions and delayed final match of the WTA Finals, she couldn’t reach Seville on time.

A fan on Twitter replied to that post saying that Laura Siegemund could have prevented the final from being delayed and played the final a day prior in front of a fully packed stadium. Perez replied:

That is true but she’s entitled to make that choice because of the situation. I don’t blame Laura for this. Sure she could have been a team player and helped me out but I understand she needs to do what’s best for her to perform in the finals.

How Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva created history on Monday?

Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva are currently two of the oldest tennis stars to have qualified for the WTA Finals. With Siegemund aged 35 and Zvonareva aged 39, both the veteran stars created history by lifting the doubles WTA Finals titles. German star Siegemund went on to become the first German star to ever get their hands on a WTA Finals doubles title.

At an age when everyone expected the star duo to slow down, they have shocked the entire world by winning three matches back-to-back in the space of just two days to qualify for the final. This marked the first final qualification for the duo as a partner, and they made it count right in their first appearance.
