The absence of Emma Raducanu from Wimbledon has left fans feeling conflicted. The 20-year-old British player, who enthralled the globe with her remarkable win at the US Open 2021, withdrew from the competition due to her injury, eliciting a wide spectrum of reactions from her fans.
Raducanu’s withdrawal has disappointed her fans and has raised concerns about her health. The Briton had shown great promise and resilience on the court, and her departure left a void in the event for those who had been looking forward to her. After undergoing surgery on her ankle and both wrists to remove carpal bosses, she has been absent for the clay-court and grass-court seasons with a possible return to tour only after summer. In June, she also parted ways with coach Sebastian Sachs.
Ever since then, a vast majority of tennis fans have expressed sympathy for Raducanu’s position, acknowledging that injuries and health problems are an unfortunate part of an athlete’s journey. They agreed that her physical well-being should always come first, and they understood her priorities. But there haven’t only been jolly good supporters.

Do tennis fans want Emma Raducanu back?

Recently, Chris Goldsmith (@TheTennisTalker) took to Twitter and hoped for a sooner return of Emma Raducanu, claiming that the British tennis badly needed her. This tweet has come days after tennis legend, Andy Murray, a fellow Briton, got ousted by Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of Wimbledon.
Many fans responded to that tweet to show their support and send their best wishes to Raducanu, wishing her a speedy recovery and a triumphant comeback to the tennis court. But there were also some who expressed displeasure and disappointment. Some of them hoped that she should remain out of the sport as her time is over and should probably look for some other job, like promoting fancy brands.
Fans’ conflicting reactions reflect the diverse opinions and emotional investments that they have in their favorite players. While some continue to spread hate and no hope, others express unflinching support for the young Briton.
