The grasscourt season has begun, and Wimbledon, the most prestigious and important grasscourt tournament of the year, is about to begin its campaign. As a result, a number of players have confirmed their participation and have commenced their preparations. The new addition to the list is two Brits, Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu, who have already started swinging their racquets on the court.
Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon experience will be a little different this year. Raducanu captured the nation’s hearts a year ago with her amazing journey to the second week of what was her first Grand Slam. She became the youngest British player to make it to the fourth round at SW19, this was followed by a historical title win in the US Open.
Nevertheless, the 19-year-old has played just 33 minutes of action on the grass after sustaining a side strain in her first warm-up match at Nottingham and there are still doubts about her entry into the tournament. Emma Raducanu, though, was spotted practising on the Grass today, according to reports. This just serves to incentivize her comeback to Wimbledon if all goes well.
Andy Murray, on the other hand, skipped all but one clay-court tournament to prepare for Wimbledon, and it appeared to be a sensible decision as he reached the final of an ATP Tour event in Stuttgart. However, in that loss against 2021 SW19 runner-up Matteo Berrettini, he had an injury that hampered his preparation. As a result, there is conjecture as to whether the 36-year-old British player will compete at Wimbledon or not. Photographs of Murray practising on the grass court before of the Wimbledon tournament, however, provide a ray of hope.
Emma Raducanu hints at a mixed doubles partnership with Andy Murray
Emma Raducanu has hinted that her desire of competing in mixed doubles with Andy Murray could be fulfilled soon. Emma Raducanu has increased her grass-court training after a second-round exit in her French Open debut last month. Since winning the US Open, she’s had to cope with a spate of minor injuries and is on her fourth coach in a year. Raducanu went on to explain that she and Murray, the former world number one, would like to work with each other. “We haven’t actually spoken about it but it’s something we both feel we both want to do, I’m not sure if this is going to be the year but hopefully it will happen,” said the Brit.
