Emma Raducanu was spotted at Wimbledon today, but not to compete or watch the action. The 20-year-old was there to fulfill her sponsorship obligations with Evian, one of the tournament’s official sponsors.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open Champion, is missing in action on the court due to her recent injury struggles and was spotted obliging fans with selfies and autographs. The charming British sensation was seen posing in front of signs for Evian, her sponsor, in the Evian VIP suite. She was also photographed holding cans of Evian sparkling water, which is featured in posters in the suite.
As a teenager, Emma Raducanu came into the spotlight in 2021 when she made it to the fourth round at the Wimbledon Championships. Following her impressive run at SW19, she beat all odds to emerge victorious at Flushing Meadows, lifting the US Open and becoming the first qualifier to lift a Grand Slam singles title in the Open Era.
Adulation and sponsorships came thick and fast for the teenager and French mineral water brand Evian announced her as a global ambassador for their products in December 2021. It is worthwhile to note that Evian has been the Official Water Supplier of the Wimbledon Championships since 2008.
Although she became the toast of the town following her exploits in New York, the road ahead became bumpy for Raducanu as she had to battle multiple injuries and also deal with multiple changes to her coaching team.
She has seen her ranking slip outside the top 100 and was forced to pull out of Wimbledon 2023 following multiple surgeries to treat her ankle and wrist injuries.
Billie Jean King criticizes Emma Raducanu for labeling WTA Tour as ‘brutal’

After Emma Raducanu’s candid interview with The Times, in which she said she sometimes wished she had never won the US Open and labeled the WTA Tour as “completely brutal,” Billie Jean King criticized the young tennis star for her comments.
King, a 39-time Grand Slam titles champion (Doubles and Singles combined) and the first president of the WTA, said that Raducanu needed to “toughen up” and “ask for help if she needed it.” She also pointed out that the WTA Tour has come a long way since King’s playing days, and that it is now a much more supportive environment for female athletes.
It remains to be seen whether Emma Raducanu can recover from her injuries and be ready for the North American leg of the tennis season. However, one thing is certain: her popularity continues to soar unabated.
