In a shocking prediction ahead of the 2024 Australian Open, Casper Ruud said that Emma Raducanu has the potential to win the Grand Slam. Raducanu, who has been sidelined since undergoing three surgeries back in May, will finally make her much-awaited comeback at the 2024 Auckland Open in January before heading on to the Australian Open. 

Casper Ruud said that if Emma Raducanu has a good pre-season, she might end up winning the 2024 Australian Open because she has great potential. The Norwegian believes she is explosive and can move around on the court very quickly. Talking about her heroics at the 2021 US Open, Ruud said that it was something that stood out and showed her mettle. 

On the women’s side, is Emma fit again? Is she going to play Australia? She’s a potential to probably win another Slam I think, for sure. If she’s doing a good pre-season. [It’s] explosive. And I think also if you see her moving around on the court she’s really good. When we watched her win the US Open, that was something that stood out.

Raducanu’s career has been on a downward trajectory ever since she won the 2021 US Open. The expectation and pressure after winning a Grand Slam are immense and the youngster found it difficult to deal with them.

Moreover, her back-to-back injuries did not help either. It is of utmost importance for her career that she make an impactful comeback in 2024 and that begins with the 2024 Australian Open.

Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud thinks that Emma Raducanu and Iga Swiatek have the same profiles. Both players do not shy away from covering the court swiftly and it takes elite athleticism to keep doing that constantly.

Her, [Iga] Swiatek, I think it’s always impressive with girls that are able to slide around the court because that’s something that is not easy. It requires to be fearless in a way and to be able to do it, it requires quite a bit of fitness. 

Ruud said that in Raducanu’s 2021 US Open winning campaign, he noticed her playing some incredible passing shots on the slide, which impressed him a lot. He opined that she can move well and hit the ball well which makes her special.
