Former World No. 1 Boris Becker joins the long list of people who are taken aback by the sudden drop of form in Emma Raducanu as the Brit continues to make early exits from all the events she is participating. With a surprise run in the 2021 Wimbledon that brought her in limelight, the teen stunned the world when she won the 2021 US Open ranked 150th in the world as a qualifier.

Since then she has not won consecutive matches except for her quarter-final run at the 2021 Transylvania Open which included a first-round bye for her as her then rank of World No. 22 made her one of the top seeds to get a bye. With frequent injuries and failure to reach the third round in over 6 months. While Becker did agree with the fact that Emma is talented and can’t win every single tournament she plays in, the 7-time Grand Slam champion does however expect her to make deep runs at the tournaments.

“The honeymoon phase is over, and the Brits are starting to worry. You can lose, but if you’re always eliminated in the first or second round after winning the US Open, you ask yourself. how is that possible now? Emma won’t win every tournament, but you can always expect semi-finals plus or minus, but she’s miles away from that at the moment.

“Everything is much more difficult than it looks from the outside. Especially with the psyche. How do you deal with the pressure? How do you deal with your own expectations? What are you doing differently now than before? It is unusual that such a young, talented girl, who rose to the top of the world overnight and achieved world fame, has since only won matches that can be counted on one hand,” said Becker speaking on Eurosport podcast Das Gelbe vom Ball.

Emma Raducanu has a season record of 3-6 in 2022

Emma started her season in Australia but lost in her season debut reaching the 2022 Australian Open winless. While she defeated Sloane Stephens in her debut at Melbourne Park, blisters in her hand saw her make a 2nd round exit from the Slam. She then played in Guadalajara where she retired mid-match after having injured her hip for which she had received treatment as well during the match.

The Sunshine Double was no different as Emma made a 3rd round exit in Indian Wells and a 2nd round exit in Miami having got a bye in the first round for both the events. It was later revealed by the Brit that she had a back injury during her time in the US. Emma later made her BJK Cup debut winning her rubber on debut but lost in the second singles rubber due to foot blisters. Emma will now feature in the 2022 Stuttgart Open next where she will make her Clay debut on the Tour.
