Torben Beltz and Emma Raducanu
British No. 1 Emma Raducanu has once again made an opening for the position of head coach as she splits up with coach Torben Beltz after just five months of partnership between them. Emma and Torben had started working in November 2021 but Emma’s vision for her training will see Beltz no more a part of her camp.
Beltz and Raducanu joined hands at the end of the 2021 season when Emma had finished on a high by winning the 2021 US Open and also the BBC Sports Personality of the Year along with the WTA Newcomer of the Year award as well for her achievements in New York. Beltz’s record with Angelique Kerber was exciting to see how he could go with Emma but it did not materialise much as Emma was first diagnosed with Covid-19 just before Christmas and then had recurring injuries.
The best result for Emma under Beltz came at the recently concluded 2022 Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart where she reached the quarter-finals only to lose to World No. 1 and eventual champion Iga Swiatek. Apart from this, Emma had failed to win consecutive matches in the other events of the season.
“I want to thank Torben for his coaching, professionalism and dedication over the last half a year. He has a huge heart and I have enjoyed our strong chemistry during the time together. I feel the best direction for my development is to transition to a new training model with the LTA supporting in the interim,” said Emma as reported by BBC. Emma will next play in the 2022 Madrid Open where she will be under the watchful eyes of Iain Bates, head of women’s coaching at the Lawn Tennis Academy (LTA).
Who will be Emma Raducanu’s fourth coach in the last 1 year?

Emma was working with Nigel Sears during the 2021 Wimbledon Championships when she first received global attention as she became the youngest British woman to reach the 4th round of the Championships. She however parted ways with Sears soon and hired Andrew Richardson for the US Open in what was the most successful month of her short career so far. Emma however immediately ended her partnership with Richardson post the US Open in a shocking move.
After a couple of tough weeks without a permanent coach, Beltz was hired but that has also now ended as Emma looks for her fourth coach in the last ten months. Given Emma’s recent practice session at Riccardo Piatti‘s academy in Liguria and the availability of Piatti as he is no longer with Jannik Sinner, the Italian could be the new coach but it remains speculation as Emma has made no hints about who will be her next coach.
