Emma Raducanu has seen a massive slump in her form since her surprise title win at the 2021 US Open. The Brit took the tennis world by storm after she defeated Leylah Fernandez in two sets, in what was the first all-teenage women’s singles final since the 1999 US Open. Raducanu was the first qualifier, male or female, to win a Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era.

Since the high of that victory, the 20-year-old has struggled to find form due to injury issues. She holds a dismal 5/5 win/loss record for the year as her WTA ranking has seen a massive drop to 280.

But, in some positive news for her fans, Raducanu is progressing towards her return to the tour. The British star shared an update on her recovery process on the social media site ‘X’ in a post captioned, ” Another week closer.”

Emma Raducanu will next play an exhibition event at Macau where she will slowly start making a comeback to professional tennis. She will aim to compete at the 2024 Australian Open with full health and fitness.

Emma Raducanu talks about her Olympic ambitions

Emma Raducanu, in an interview with the BBC, talked about her chances to appear at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Talking about competing at the Olympics, the Brit stated:

Obviously, the Olympics is such a big thing in sport. I think I could play another four if I really wanted to, so this one isn't the immediate rush or pressure.

Raducanu has not played much tennis this year. Hence it will be tough to know if she will qualify for the Olympics next year in Paris. For context, as per the qualification criteria set by the Olympic authority, the top 56 players in the World rankings under the singles category as of 10 June 2024 WTA and ATP will qualify for the Paris Olympics next year.

In addition to this, athletes must follow the ITF (International Tennis Federation) eligibility rules, including participation in the Billie Jean King Cup, which the 20-year-old has missed this year.
