British No.1 tennis player Emma Raducanu has suffered a setback in her career as she had to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open due to a hand injury. This means that Raducanu will be outside the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time since her historic victory at the US Open in 2021.

Raducanu was scheduled to play against Viktoriya Tomova as a lucky loser in the Madrid Open. However, the tournament’s social media account announced her withdrawal from the event due to a right-hand injury. The young athlete had previously mentioned that she was managing a wrist injury that had kept her out of the latter stages of 2022, but she did not reveal much about her condition during her pre-tournament press conference on the day before her withdrawal.

Raducanu’s injury has confirmed that she will drop outside the top 100 when the new rankings are announced after the conclusion of the tournament in the Spanish capital. Her withdrawal means that she will lose the points she earned from reaching the third round of the Madrid Open last year.

Despite this setback, Raducanu has proven herself to be a formidable force in the world of tennis. She won the US Open in her first-ever appearance at a Grand Slam tournament, becoming the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam. Her remarkable run at the US Open saw her defeat some of the world’s top players.

Raducanu’s withdrawal from the Madrid Open is undoubtedly a disappointment for her fans and supporters. However, her talent and determination have already made her one of the brightest prospects in the world of tennis, and she will undoubtedly bounce back from this setback.

Emma Raducanu had set her sights on improving her fitness during the off-season in 2022, after a challenging season plagued by injuries. To achieve her goal, the young British player hired Jez Green, a renowned fitness trainer who had previously worked with Andy Murray. Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan for Raducanu this year, as she has withdrawn from several tournaments due to injury.

The 20-year-old had to retire from the Auckland tournament after sustaining an ankle injury during the second round. She withdrew from the Austin tournament due to tonsillitis, and just recently pulled out of the Madrid Open before it even began, citing a hand injury. Raducanu‘s disrupted season has raised concerns about her ability to compete in the upcoming tournaments. With the severity of her latest injury unknown, it is unclear whether she will be able to participate in the upcoming clay court season in Rome and the second Grand Slam of the year, Roland Garros, which begins on May 28.

Despite the setbacks, Raducanu’s fans remain hopeful that she will make a speedy recovery and return to the court soon. The young player has already demonstrated her immense talent and determination, and she has a bright future ahead of her if she can stay healthy and focused on her goals.
