Emma Raducanu’s French Open road to Final: A possible Naomi Osaka clash awaits in her path to second grand slam title
Emma Raducanu
This year, Emma Raducanu has done rather well in her first few tournaments on clay. At the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, she scored wins over Storm Sanders and Tamara Korpatsch before losing to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. Raducanu next competed at the Madrid Open. Up against Tereza Martincova in the first round and saved a set point before clinching the opening set and winning the match 7-6(3), 6-0. She then defeated Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-1. The teenager lost in the third round to Anhelina Kalinina. This was followed by a walkover against Bianca Andreescu in the round of 64 of the Italian Open 2022.
However, the teenage tennis sensation will make her French Open debut against a qualifier. The 19-year-old US Open champion is seeded 12th at Roland Garros but has struggled with injuries in the build-up to the clay-court Grand Slam.
A tough road ahead for Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu of the U.k. will play a qualifier in the first round of the 2022 French Open. If she survives her first-round match in Paris, the 19-year-old US Open champion will face either Aliaksandra Sasnovich or Wang Xinyu in the second round. Looking ahead, the Brit could have a difficult match in the final 16 against Ons Jabeur.
She could face Bianca Andreescu in the quarterfinals, whom she was supposed to encounter in the Italian Open 2022. Raducanu could face Naomi Osaka, Maria Sakkari, and Belinda Blencic as well. This round appears to be particularly difficult for the British player, as she will be competing against some of the finest players in the world. If she passes this hurdle, she will face Victoria Azarenka, Garbine Muguruza, Anett Kontaveit, or Barbora Kcrejcikova, the defending champion.
For Raducanu, the draw is really difficult. Her injuries don’t seem to be helping matters either. To be honest, she doesn’t appear to have a chance of making it past the quarter-finals, let alone the semifinals. However, if she succeeds, she will face either World No. 1 Iga Swiatek or World No. 3 Paula Badosa for a chance to win her first French Open championship.
