Iga Swiatek won the WTA Finals on Monday, beating Jessica Pegula to become World No. 1 once again. Swiatek, the second seed, played well from start to finish and won 6-1, 6-0 in just 59 minutes. This is Swiatek’s 17th career victory, and it means she will finish the year as world number one for the second year in a row.
As of Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Iga Swiatek is the top-ranked player in the world, with 9,295 points. Aryna Sabalenka stands in second place with 9,050 points separated by a huge margin from Coco Gauff in third place with 6,580 points.
The Belarusian was at the top of the rankings after she reached the finals of the 2023 US Open. However, the joy was short-lived as she was defeated by Swiatek in the semi-finals of the WTA Finals. After the Pole won the WTA Finals title, her chances relinquished to end up as the World No. 1 for the year-end.
There has been a lot of movement in the rankings recently, with several players making significant gains. Swiatek’s victory at the WTA Finals helped her consolidate her position at the top of the rankings. American teenage prodigy Coco Gauff’s strong performance at the US Open helped her move into the top three. She has amassed a total of 6,580 points at year-end.
