The Argentine player believes the rise of younger players will eventually bring down the era of the 'Big Three'.
Francisco Cerúndolo, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic
Argentine professional tennis player, Francisco Cerúndolo has made some sensational statements about the future of the celebrated era of the ‘Big Three’ of tennis. The trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic has dominated most of the last two decades, sharing 64 Grand Slam titles among them. Nevertheless, according to Cerundolo, this era is coming to an end.
“It’s a good time for tennis because you don’t see it as impossible. A few years ago, we could see Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, Murray, and perhaps Del Potro… We could see four, five, or six established players, who were impossible to eliminate and beat in a Grand Slam or in important rounds,” Cerundolo remarked about the changed dynamics of the game in recent years.
Cerundolo went ahead about the impacts of the rise of young players. “Now, there is a very big change on the circuit, with Alcaraz, with Tsitsipas, with Ruud… Many are my age. The new generation has burst into the top places of the class. In the big tours, many finalists are beginning to appear, used chambers such as Carlos or Daniil Medvedev.”
Giving his final verdict about the future, the 24-year-old said, “The era of Federer Nadal and Djokovic is coming to an end even if Djokovic still has a few years ahead of him – and it is a good possibility, a motivation for all of us to see that everyone can win no one wins what tournament. It’s all good.”

Djokovic and Nadal are continuing the era of the ‘Big Three’ despite Federer’s retirement
Swiss Maestro Roger Federer bid adieu to the game last September after his final match in the Laver Cup for Team Europe. Since then there have been speculations about the future of the celebrated trio. Many have commented that the end of the ‘Big Three’ will come sooner than later.
But, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are still going strong and the current generation is yet to find the answers to stop them. Although there are some who have written off Nadal following his injury-forced ouster from the Australian Open, he has proven time and again what he is capable of. His resilience in the 2022 Australian Open triumph coming from two sets behind against Daniil Medvedev should serve as ample proof.
As for the Serb, Djokovic just won the 10th title Down Under. No one on the younger side looked closer even to confront him during the fortnight. The 35-year-old is looking set to continue the dominance in the entire 2023 season. Thus, there is no denying the eventuality, the duo is trying everything to delay the inevitable.
