Alexander Bublik, the 26-year-old Kazakh who is ranked 36th in the world, was given a bye in the first round. In the second round, he took on Gregoire Barrere and demolished the Frenchman, taking him down in straight sets. Bublik took the game home 6-4, 6-2, and set up a third-round match with another Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. However, the Kazakh had to sweat it out against Mpetshi but eventually, he picked up a win in three sets of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Now, he is pitted against Marterer in the semifinals.

Maximilian Marterer has done a fantastic job, qualifying for the semifinals after starting as a qualifier. The German player has fought it hard for his wins. While Marterer opened his campaign against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, he faced Nuno Borges in the second round. In both the matches, Marterer earned a win in straight sets. While he beat Gasquet 6-3, 6-4, the German took down Borges 6-3, 7-6 (3). In the third round, Merterer had no trouble beating Hugo Gaston 6-3, 6-2.

Now, as the German will be up against a tough opponent in the form of Bublik, it will be interesting to see how he responds.

Maximilian Marterer and Alexander Bublik have met each other once on the ATP tour and once on the Challenger tour. While they faced each other during the 2023 Wimbledon with Bublik emerging victorious, Marterer had managed a win when the two had met six years ago on the Challenge tour. While this win is a thing of the past, Marterer will draw inspiration from it and hope to go past his Kazakh opponent.

On the other hand, Bublik will not think too much about it and just play his natural game. The Kazakh has had a hot and cold season so far but he has a chance to lift his second singles title this year.
