Brandon Holt, son of tennis Hall of Famer Tracy Austin, made his mark after securing the main draw in the Australian Open last month. It was the second consecutive main draw appearance for the 24-year-old after the US Open last year. This has made her mom very proud as she opened up about the emotions she went through last month seeing her son play Down Under.

Former World No. 1 Austin herself had an incredibly successful career. She remains the youngest US Open female singles champion (age 16) and the youngest inductee into the International Tennis Hall of Fame at age 29. Now watching his son competing in the tour has filled her with joy and thrill.

Austin acknowledged that as a former player watching her son Holt play brings different emotions. “What’s interesting about watching your son play as a former player, is that you watch with different eyes,” explained Austin in her show Talking Tennis with Tracy. “I feel like every role I’ve ever played in life comes together in watching Brandon.”

The California resident revealed how she adjusted to her son’s matches and woke up early being in a different time zone. Austin also told how she was more nervous to watch her son play than when she was on the court.

Other than being nervous, Tracy also revealed how the success of her son becomes important for her after playing a crucial role. “It’s the coach in me, it’s the analyst that’s trying to figure out the momentum swings, it’s the mom in me that knows how much work he’s put into his career,” she expressed.

Last year in the US Open, Holt upset Taylor Fritz in the first round announcing his arrival. He continued his good form and secured a place in the main draw of the Australian Open. That had made her mom very proud.

“He did it, He handled the moment. He handled the pressure and won the third time in a row, and didn’t have that letdown. These are big wins for him. Just so happy that now he’s in the US Open. I still can’t believe it,” Austin said that time.

Both the son and mom share a special bond as was evident in the statement made by Holt after his US Open run. “I’ve never seen her give anything less than 100%, whether it’s doing things for her family, which seems to be her favorite thing to do because she’s always there for us. That’s the biggest thing that I’ve learned from her, whether that’s in tennis or just playing a game of cards: she’s not going to lose and she’ll reach across the table and rip your heart out, but she’ll hug you after,”
