Daniil Medvedev is well known for his sudden outbursts of anger during his matches. The World No. 3 smashed his racquet on the court in anger upon losing his second-round match at the Paris Masters 2022 against Alex de Minaur after receiving a bye in the first round. He was frustrated with the loss after battling for two hours and 46 minutes of play.
The Russian had recently won his 15th ATP Title at the Vienna Open and was looked upon as one of the favorites going into the competition. He was last year’s finalist and had suffered the defeat to the 21-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic.
Upon losing the match, both the players walked towards the net for the customary handshake. Unable to digest the loss, he failed to hold his nerves which were evident during the course of the match. He threw his racquet on the court with a huge blow as he was shaken completely by the defeat. He was also spotted talking to someone in the audience with a lot of anger as he left the court with a lot of frustration.
This was not the first time during the match that he displayed a sudden outburst of emotions. His frustration was also seen when he was unable to challenge a call on de Minaur‘s serve at 4-4 in the first set after when the chair umpire informed him of being late for the challenge. After losing the first set, he even smacked his racquet into the chair umpire’s microphone before heading toward his bench for the changeover. His actions were highly criticized by the audience present in the stadium.

He was ranked 3rd at the start of the tournament and might fall to the 5th spot with only one tournament left on the Tour.
