Alexander Zverev has been in the news for the past few months for non-sporting reasons as well. As the German ace will face a trial in the domestic violence case, Zverev has been facing the heat from the fans as well as some journalists. Ben Rothenberg, the author of Naomi Osaka‘s biography, in particular, has been targeting the German over this allegation.

Rothenberg has openly criticized Zverev as well as the authorities for allowing him to compete at the 2024 Australian Open. The journalist also did not look too pleased with Zverev getting too much footage in the second season of Netflix’s Break Point. He then raised questions about Zverev getting a place on the ATP Players’ Council.

Now, Rothenberg used a fan’s complaint about not wanting to watch Zverev at the Australian Open to demand that the German is not given a match on the main courts and that he is kept at avoidable grounds.

Not the first time I’ve heard this frustration from a fan with a ticket bought in advance during this #AusOpen. Maybe keep Zverev to avoidable grounds pass courts when possible these next few months?
Ben Rothenberg posted on X highlighting the fan’s comment.

Ben Rothenberg faced heat from the fans for targeting Alexander Zverev

While fans agreed with Ben Rothenberg for most of the objections raised by the journalist, a few fans looked fed up with the unnecessary criticism directed towards the German ace. They claimed that it was pure hate from the journalist for Zverev.

It is worth mentioning that Zverev got a trial after he contested the decision to pay a hefty fine which was issued by a Berlin court a few months back. The German ace has also addressed the criticism around him getting a chance to play at the Grand Slam tournament and also about serving on the ATP Players’ Council.
