Naomi Osaka’s winning momentum in the Qatar Open has been halted after she faced a defeat in the quarterfinals of the tournament. She was up against two-time Grand Slam finalist Karolina Pliskova on Thursday. The former World No. 1 Pliskova stepped up big time and won the match, with both sets going to the tiebreakers.
After the defeat in the quarterfinals, the Twitter page The Tennis Letter posted an appreciation post for the Japanese star.
It’s been an interesting journey so far. We saw that glimmer in Naomi’s eyes when she played her 1st match back. We saw the disappointment on her face each time she lost. What we’re seeing now is a champion finding herself on the tennis court once again. The post said.
However, interestingly enough, fans have not been quite pleased with the post, as they feel that Naomi Osaka has been referring to the mom thing too much after his poor performances.
Pls stop the mom thing. It is extremely annoying, and I know that several women share my opinion. Did you ever state "since coming back as a mom" about Tatjana Maria or some of the several women before all this hype started with Serena and Svitolina. One of the fans commented on the post shared by The Tennis Letter.
Naomi Osaka bows out of the Qatar Open, Pliskova advances
Karolina Pliskova came to Qatar with pretty good momentum, winning the Winners Open. However, her opponent, Osaka, was eagerly waiting to gain some form back after a long sabbatical.
The Japanese star faired up quite well before the quarters. She clinched two consecutive victories for the first time after her return against the likes of Caroline Garcia and Petra Martic.
However, Pliskova was too much for Osaka, as she was beaten by the Czech in a thriller. This is Osaka’s second loss against the Czech player in the last two months. Pliskova will be facing the defending champion, Iga Swiatek, in the semis of the tournament. The World No. 1 is coming after a win against Victoria Azarenka.
