Social media has become an important aspect of the world of sports as it is a platform for people to voice their opinions, but it is also a platform where the fans blatantly troll the haters. Recently, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek was on the receiving end of the fans after a controversial ‘swatted incident’.
At the United Cup quarter-final match between team China and team Poland, Iga Swiatek was up against young Chinese player Qinwen Zheng.
Just as the match was about to begin, the players got their service practices in when Iga Swiatek ripped a serve, which unfortunately hit the Chinese squarely on a portion of her arm.
Swiatek quickly apologized, not once but twice, but Zheng in turn shrugged her shoulders, pointing at the place of the hit. As expected, the Pole got slammed for hitting the ball, and the incident lingered in the air for a while.
Then, the news of Zheng’s withdrawal from the Adelaide WTA 500, set to take place just before the Australian Open, got the fans fuming as they bashed the 22-year-old for it.
