Stefanos Tsitsipas faced another defeat of the season when he lost to Holger Rune in the finals of the 2022 Stockholm Open in straight sets within one hour and 35 minutes of play. He had played some spectacular level of tennis. This was her second defeat in the finals of an ATP event after her first-round exit at the US Open.
The Greek player was defeated by Rune for the second time in the year as the Danish player had earlier beaten him in the fourth round at the French Open. It was the Greek’s sixth appearance in the finals of the ATP tournaments of the year. He has managed to win twice out of the six finals and is considered to be one of the upcoming talents of the sport.
Tsitsipas hadn’t lost a single set during the tournament where he had defeated Emil Ruusuvuori, Mikael Ymer, and Maxime Cressy in the previous rounds of the competition. He had also managed to reach the finals of the 2022 Astana Open but lost to the 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
Twitter reacts to Stefanos Tsitsipas’ another loss in the finals on the ATP Tour
The World No 6 became the other player to reach the semifinals at all three Masters 1000 tournaments on clay in the season. Stefanos Tsitsipas was aiming for his 10th ATP title of his career and his third title of the year as he had won at the Monte Carlo Masters and at the Mallorca Open. He is yet to win a Grand Slam singles title.
Tsitsipas had a hard time during his third-round match at the Wimbledon Championship against Nick Kyrgios. Both players lost their control and were even fined for violating codes since the match ended on a heated note with both accusing each other, especially the Greek calling the Aussie a ‘bully‘ for distracting him during the game.
With another shocking defeat in the finals, people on social media mocked the Greek player for failing to convert another final into a win. Some criticized him to hire a coach to let them help him through crucial points and turn the match into a winner while some hilariously mocked him to get back to winning ways.
