German tennis star Alexander Zverev has been in the headlines for the past few weeks after being accused of physical abuse. He has been held accused by her ex-girlfriend and also the mother of her daughter, Brenda Patea. He has been under huge pressure for the past few weeks just after the Wimbledon Championships with fans spreading hate comments against him all over social media.
Even the ATP has been under serious limelight after the board has still allowed him to participate in the ongoing Swedish Open. Many fans have turned their back on him and there are talks about a “criminal order” being petitioned against him in the public prosecutor’s office in Berlin soon. And if the court grants the penalty order, he will only have two weeks to challenge the accusation.
With Patea raising accusations related to basically “bodily harm,” there aren’t any strong proof against the German player. Alexander Zverev has also been previously accused of domestic assault accusations by his then ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova and ATP took three long years to investigate the situation with the charges finally being cleared at the start of this year.
How are fans standing beside Alexander Zverev in his time of crisis?
Despite Zverev being held guilty in the aspect of many people with many hating on him, there are still some fans who are busy protecting him. There still hasn’t been any solid proof whatsoever of whether he has truly laid hands on his ex-girlfriend and his fans think that it will be too harsh on him to bash him now. Zverev got a lot of boos on the court during his match against Thiago Monteiro in the first round of the Swedish Open.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
It won’t be a good idea at all to speak of a player who is respected so much around the world until he is proven guilty. But the thing that is revolving around the minds of several people is the fact that he has been accused twice of physical harassment and domestic violence. This in turn has got the tennis fans up on their seats and many want him out of the sport even before the court judgement comes out.
