“New training tactic?”- Fans question Coco Gauff’s practice session with a black eye patch

Coco Gauff had been one of the most prominent players in the last couple of years. Her 2023 campaign, especially the second half of the season, has been really impressive. Her run at the US Open 2023 saw her clinch her maiden Grand Slam event.
In the finals, Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka to clinch the title. Sabalenka started strongly winning the first set. However, the American made a strong comeback by beating her in the next two straight sets to register a win over Sabalenka.
With the 2024 season set to commence in January, there will be high hopes riding on her shoulders. The 19-year-old has already started her preparations after spending an off-time on the break.
In one of the videos that surfaced over Twitter, Gauff is seen practicing with a black eye patch. Fans reacted curiously to the video. Some fans reacted in a sarcastic way, commenting ‘pirate?’ in the comment section.
There have been various explanations regarding this type of training by Gauff. However, reports say that this type of training helps in improving the hand-eye coordination of the player. Gauff isn’t the only one to take up unique training methods during the pre-season period. Iga Swiatek was also seen practicing with a mouth tape.
