World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has been going through a rough patch at the moment. After several disastrous performances and bad results in the last few tournaments, it is completely evident that Alcaraz is struggling with his form.
Having participated at the Rio Open, Alcaraz had to retire midway through his first-round matchup against Thiago Monteiro due to a knee injury on Monday.
Due to this, he had to bow out of the competition. As per the young prodigy himself, he is focusing solely on recovery while he waits for the test results to come.
At the post-match conference following his exit, Alcaraz talked about recovering and being ready for the upcoming tours.
I have a test for my ankle, let’s see if it’s something serious or not. The physios told me they think it’s not too serious, so I think I have time to recover & be ready for that match.

How did Carlos Alcaraz hurt his knee?
During the first-round matchup against Thiago Monteiro, Alcaraz injured himself in the process of hitting a forehand return from the ad court.
The Spaniard was going back towards the center of the court as he registered his right foot to stop himself, but his right ankle got twisted badly and he fell over on the ground.
As expected, the incident got his fans worried, who then showered the young Spaniard with heartwarming wishes.

Having finished as the runners-up last year and also lifting the title the year before, Alcaraz was expected to achieve good things in Brazil. Monteiro helped Alcaraz get back to the bench as the physio came in quickly, strapping his ankle tightly.
