The Center Court at Wimbledon 2023 will be treated to an amazing encounter today. Local hero Andy Murray will be taking on World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in what’s the final scheduled match on the prestigious court. Murray took to the court for his round-one match after Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem started their match.
But the rains at Wimbledon led to a circumstance where Tsitsipas finished the match a day after Murray’s. While the former World No. 1 went on to win his match in straight-sets, the Greek had to battle over five sets to clinch the final set tiebreaker. Much to his delight, apart from his team, his lady love, Paula Badosa was also in the stands supporting him after winning her first-round match as well.
With a Center Court debut fixed, that too against Murray, Tsitsipas had nothing but words of praise for the Scot. He admitted he expects no support from the crowd as Murray will be playing in his ‘living room’. While Tsitsipas could butter up the local lad, fans on the internet were not so forgiving as graves were drugged up.

Fans expecting a proper showdown between Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas

In an eventful match at the 2021 US Open, Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas were at loggerheads. The post-match controversies became the groundwork for ATP to introduce a rule on the toilet breaks that a player could take. Tsitsipas had taken extended breaks to use the washroom which frustrated Murray at the Flushing Meadows.
Not only did the former US Open champ complain about it to the chair umpire, but he also took multiple digs on Twitter against the Greek. As the two men prepare for another battle, this time in Murray’s backyard, fans came up with hilarious reactions over what could the match potentially turn into.
The rain delays have anyway packed the scheduling for Wimbledon. This is the first time in nearly four years that the rain has played a spoilsport. First-round matches are yet to be finished even on the fourth match day. Amidst this chaos, a blockbuster clash as big as Murray-Tsitsipas will surely be an exciting affair.
Center Court would however be opened by Liam Broady and Casper Ruud in their second-round clash. Defending champ Elena Rybakina will then take on veteran Alize Cornet before making way for the men in question. With Roger Federer in attendance for Murray’s previous round match and Stef employing the Swiss maestro’s iconic one-handed backhand, fans are also eager to see if the King of Wimbledon does return to the Center Court today.
