Serena Williams, the 40-year-old American professional is widely regarded to be the greatest female tennis player of all time, with 23 grand slam titles to her name, Serena Williams is hugely credited with revolutionizing women’s tennis for generations to come by millions of fans around the world.
Serena Williams recently dropped a bombshell on her fans as she announced that she will soon be retiring from professionally playing tennis after competing in the ongoing US Open, she had made it to round three of the tournament after defeating Danka Kovinic and Anett Kontaveit.
Skip Bayless thinks that Serena Williams didn’t upset Anett Kontaveit
After beating Danka Kovinic in the first round of the US Open, many fans started to grow hopes that Williams could possibly go all the way but she faced a very tough battle against world number 2, Anett Kontaveit. Many figured that this challenge would be too much for the 40-year-old to handle and that she would be defeated.
Williams surprised many worldwide as she emerged victorious from the tie in three sets in a hard-fought victory, fans took to Twitter to call Serena’s victory an ‘upset’ when American sports columnist, Skip Bayless called these baseless facts, he wrote on Twitter, “Serena Williams did not “upset” the U.S. Open’s No.-2 seed. She was just the better player, even at almost 41. She served better, volleyed stunningly better. Serena pretty much blasted her off the court. Yes, she had overwhelming “home” court advantage. But she flat-out DOMINATED.”
Bayless insisted that even being so close to retirement, Williams was not to be taken as an underdog. The GOAT of female tennis still has life left in her and she proved in a fantastic victory over Anett Kontaveit. Progressing to the third round of the US Open, Williams faces yet another tough challenge as she will be going up against Ajla Tomljanovic in the next round of the tournament at the Flushing Meadows.
