Ons Jabeur, the first ever Arab woman to reach the final of a Grand Slam has swiftly made her way into the third round of Wimbledon. In the post-match interview, she was asked about her ‘special connection’ with the grass court, considering there are not many grass courts back in her country Tunisia.

To this, the Arab replied, “I played a lot of football when I grew up in grass and sometimes I pretend to be Cristiano Ronaldo on the court.”

Jabeur has shown exceptional performance on the grass this year. She defeated her opponents in very easy straight sets in the first round and second round respectively. She is set to face Bianca Andreescu in the third round. Even last year, the Arab managed to reach the final of Wimbledon, where she gave a very tough fight to former world number 1 Elena Rybakina. As per Jabeur, she has spent a lot of time playing football and hence she believes she is a good player on the grass.

Carrying on, the 28-year-old said that at times while playing she pretends to be football player Cristiano Ronaldo. It seems No. 7 has influenced her in many ways. The Tunisian has already spoken about her love for football and Ronaldo back in an interview with BBC. She said it’s because of Ronaldo she fell in love with Real Madrid and dreams of going to Santiago Bernabeu one day to watch Real Madrid play.

Ons Jabeur has showcased her love for football in many instances. Whether it’s her great footwork on the court or her playing with the tennis ball while pretending it to be a football. In many interviews, the world number 6 has revealed that she is a massive football fan and loves David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Well, after her first-round win over Magdalena Frech, the Arab’s dream came true. Jabeur got to link up with football legend David Beckham after her match. In her post-match interview after the second round, she said that currently, she emulates David Beckham while playing on the court. She proceeded to praise the former footballer, calling him polite and a very nice guy and how it was a pleasure to meet him. The Arab, then jokingly added, “I am glad that my husband let me give him a hug.”

Jabeur also posted a few pictures and videos of her with Beckham on her Instagram account. She captioned the post with “A pleasure and an honor to meet @davidbeckham. Thankyou for the inspiring moment.” In the video, the two seem to be having a lighthearted conversation with each other.
