Iga Swiatek has been the best player of the season by a mile. She started the year by reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open and since then, she hasn’t looked back. She won her first hardcourt WTA 1000 title in Doha and then backed it up by completing the Sunshine Double- winning titles at Indian Wells and Miami. She then won the Stuttgart Open without dropping a set and repeated the same in Rome, where he won her 5th consecutive title.

She hasn’t had much trouble last week in Paris either. She dropped just 4 games in the opening two rounds, beating the likes of Lesia Tsurenko and Alison Riske. She then defeated Danka Kovinic and Qinwen Zheng before getting the better of Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal in straight sets 6-3,6-2.

Daria Kasatkina started her season by reaching the third round of the Australian Open and also made it to the Round of 16 at Doha. She then had a poor Golden Swing and didn’t particularly start the clay season well. But she managed to make it to the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open and then reached the semifinal of the Italian Open.

This fortnight in Paris, she eased past two qualifiers, Rebecca Šramková and Fernanda Contreras Gomez in the early rounds before beating Shelby Rogers and Camila Giorgi in the next two rounds. In the quarterfinal, she defeated Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets 6-4,7-6(5) to book a date with Swiatek.
