Iga Swiatek has achieved some great success this year. At the Australian Open, the Polish player faced a fourth-round exit at the hands of Elena Rybakina (4-6, 4-6). She won her first WTA title of the year at the Qatar Open after her victorious triumph over Jessica Pegula (6-3, 6-0). Swaitek made back-to-back finals appearances at the Dubai Championships but lost the match to Barbora Krejcikova. Following her semi-final exit at the Indian Wells Masters, Swiatek later withdrew from the Miami Open due to injury issues.

With the start of her clay campaign, the World No. 1 claimed her second consecutive title at the Stuttgart Open after defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 6-4. At her final rematch with Sabalenka in Madrid, the Belarussian outperformed Swiatek to win her first clay title of the season. At the Italian Open, the 21-year-old faced a tough defeat after losing the quarterfinals to Rybakina. With her record of two French Open titles and the highest winning percentage of 88.2 on the WTA 1000, Swiatek will pose a huge challenge to all the competitors in Paris.

On the other hand, Cristina Bucsa had a satisfactory start this year. The 25-year-old qualified for the Australian Open and reached the third round after her incredible win over Bianca Andreescu (6-2, 7-6, 6). The Spaniard later faced defeat at the hands of Iga Swiatek (0–6, 1-6). At the Lyon Open, her pairing with Bibiane Schoofs brought her an accolade in the doubles category.

With the beginning of clay tournaments, Bucsa booked her round of 16 seats at the Stuttgart Open. However, her amazing run came to an end as she was defeated by fellow national Paula Badosa (1-6, 2-6). Later, the World No. 66 exited in the early rounds at both the Madrid and Rome Open

Looking at their WTA head-to-head, this will be their second meeting following their first clash at this year’s Australian Open. Swiatek leads the record by 1-0 after her easy win over the Spanish player.

The World No. 1 definitely has an upper hand over the 25-year-old. With her ‘aggressive’ and ‘adaptive’ game style on the clay surface, the defending champion will easily pass through the first-round hurdle. It will not be much of a competition between the two, as Swiatek has acquired enough momentum from her previous tournaments on clay. On the other hand, Bucsa will be entering the arena with the aim of playing her best tennis on the court.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek will win in two sets.
