Carlos Alcaraz has been one of the standout players in the last couple of years. The Spaniard has shown an amazing skillset and resilience for a 20-year-old. He was the only one who not only challenged Novak Djokovic but also beat him in the major Grand Slams this season. In the finals of Wimbledon Alcaraz defeated the Serb in the final set of the match 6-4 to clinch his second Grand Slam title of his career.

The Spanish former tennis player Alex Corretja has praised the 20-year-old calling him out as one of the most special players of his generation. In an interview with Eurosport, Corretja said:

To me, winning a Grand Slam would make it a very good season. I think that this year, for example, Roland Garros is going to be a very big deal for him. After what happened last year (cramps against Djokovic), I think he will manage it differently. He will have less anxiety and he'll be wanting to get to Paris to win, because he knows that it is a very long Grand Slam.

Djokovic and Alcaraz had some tough encounters between them, and the 20-year-old has provided hard time to Nole every time the two have met. During the French Open semi-finals, Nole beat Alcaraz and eventually went on to become champions. The Spaniard said after the loss that he was caught up with cramps due to the pressure and anxiety of facing Nole in a Grand Slam semis.

Carlos Alcaraz, the player to look for in the future?

There is no doubt that Alcaraz is one of the finest players of his generation. He is just 20 and has already two major Grand Slam titles in his bag. Even after losing out to Nole in the French Open semis, the 20-year-old came back strongly beating Djokovic in the finals of the Wimbledon. This speaks tons of his dedication and quick learning ability. His fellow Spanish mate Alex Corretja has lauded heavy praises on Alcaraz for his performances.

In the interview. Corretja added:

I've said it a long time ago, I think Alcaraz is going to win all the Grand Slams on all surfaces, even the Masters. I think he is going to be a player who is going to win all the titles practically possible, and it is because of the way he plays, his ambition, and his character. I think his tennis is very high. So, it seems to me that Alcaraz is destined to be one of the special ones.

However, after the Wimbledon 2023, there has been a dip of form for the 2022 US Open winner. He lost in the ATP semis as well as in the Cincinnati masters to Nole and also lost his No.1 ranking to him. With the 2024 season set to commence in January, it will be interesting to see how the young Spaniard performs.
