Reclaiming his position as world no. 1, Novak Djokovic created history at Court Philippe Chatrier yesterday. The 36-year-old Serb claimed his third French Open title and 23rd Major overall, moving ahead of Rafael Nadal to become the most successful man in the history of tennis in terms of Grand Slam titles won.

Djokovic faced 4th-seed Casper Ruud in the summit clash, and while Ruud fought well, it was not enough to upstage the Serb. Djokovic claimed the final in straight sets (7-6, 6-3, 7-5) in a little over three hours.

As a result of his history-making effort, Djokovic will receive a whopping €2.3 million. With this, the 23-time Major winner has further increased his prize money earnings over his career to a stellar $169.8 million, with Nadal being the distant second with $134.6 million in the list of all-time highest prize money winners.

Runner-up Ruud will get €1.15 million at the Roland Garros this year. On the other hand, semifinalists Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev will receive €630,000 each. The total prize pool for the 2023 edition of the French Open is €49.6 million, a significant jump of 12.3% from the previous year.

With his title victory in Paris yesterday, Djokovic has given himself the best shot to achieve the Calendar Grand Slam, one of the very few accolades left to be achieved by him in his glittering career. In three weeks’ time, the Wimbledon Championships will begin, and with the kind of form Djokovic is in, it is difficult to imagine anyone other than him clinching the title.

Moreover, if all goes well and the Serb remains injury-free for the rest of the year, he will again be the front-runner at the 2023 US Open. With the absence of his nemesis like Nadal and Roger Federer and the younger generation still trying to solve this ‘Serbian code’, Djokovic can’t ask for a better chance!
