The American World No.10 Frances Tiafoe is yet not over his quarter-final loss against fellow countryman Ben Shelton in front of their home crowd. In a packed stadium in an electrifying atmosphere, the younger American Ben Shelton was able to get one of his biggest career wins against the World No.10 in four sets. The final score read as 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-2.

Tiafoe stated that he was frustrated with the missed opportunities during the tight contest. The 25-year-old said, “It was very hot tonight, very muggy, very humid. He was sweating a lot, the balls were heavy, but he was able to get through it a little more than me. He was better than me, I gave him many opportunities and he took advantage of them.”

Tiafoe continued on how he is going to learn from this loss and his future goals, “At times I had an unacceptable level on my part, I am leaving a little frustrated, I cannot continue having these matches in Grand Slams, there are things I must learn from. My goal is to finish the season in the top 10” (Credits: PuntoDeBreak, translated via Google)

The American World No.10 Frances Tiafoe made his name etched in the US Open history when he defeated the Spanish star Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the US Open 2022. He continued his run until the semi-final which is still his best-ever Grand Slam run ever. He was expected to make a deeper run in this year’s US Open as well but Ben Shelton had different plans this time.

Tiafoe as expected, was truly frustrated with his own performance in the match against Shelton. Against a younger opponent who has less experience on tour, Tiafoe had the edge in some ways. But the youngster played his heart out to stop the fellow American.

Now, Tiafoe will be aiming to play better tennis in the upcoming indoor hard-court swing. If he can grab the maximum points in those tournaments, an appearance in the ATP finals at Turin will be a possible task. Currently ranked at 10, the American 25-year-old will be trying whatever possible to not slip out of the top-10 rankings in the near future.
