Gael Monfils recently made a very fun video that was posted on the ATP Tour channel. In the video, he was asked to build his perfect tennis player by taking the best attributes from the top players in the world, and the Frenchman did a sensational job in doing so. In fact, most of the fans in the comments section agreed with his picks and were impressed with the variety of players that he named after proper brainstorming.
He took the forehand of Juan Martin Del Potro, the backhand and return of Novak Djokovic, the serve of Nick Kyrgios, the slice of Roger Federer, the netgame of Pat Rafter, the speed of Carlos Alcaraz, and the mental toughness of Rafael Nadal.
Monfils could not pick a name for competitiveness and celebration because these things, according to him, are subjective and it would be unfair for him to pick one name. However, he mentioned that he prefers the traditional celebrations.
This is a tough question. And to be honest, I don’t have an answer to this because I feel like all the top athletes, they are top. To say which one is the best, it would be, of course, the one who wins more and maybe you know you are not winning as much than then and you can also be quite tough in competitiveness.Gael Monfils
NDjokovic was the only player he picked twice in the video. Talking about his backhand, Monfils said that it is almost perfect. He can hit parts of the court and the speed and control he has are downright impeccable. On the other hand, he said that the Serb’s return is just ‘insane’ and saying anything other than that would be unjust.
Gael Monfils set to take part in Australian Open 2024
Gael Monfils is currently 37 years old and is in the twilight of his career. He appeared in the Paris Masters last year, where he got eliminated in the Round of 64 by Francisco Cerundolo. His 2023 season was just average and his only memorable recent performance came in the Stockholm Open where he won the title by beating Pavel Kotov in the final.
Monfils who was a World No. 6 at his peak, was named in the entry list of the 2024 Australian Open as an unseeded player and he will be playing in the tournament. Although not much is expected from him in the Grand Slam, Monfils will definitely look to pull off a decent performance as he has now also gotten a lot of rest since the Paris Masters.
