Spanish-Venezuelan tennis star Garbine Muguruza recently reaffirmed that she does not intend to return to the sport anytime soon. Upon being asked whether she will be participating in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, the 30-year-old gave a very vague response, which kind of made it clear that she does not intend to come out of her sabbatical anytime soon. 

Muguruza last took part in a competition in January 2023 and she has been on a break since then. The Spaniard is a two-time Grand Slam champion, but there was a significant dip in her performance after she won the WTA Finals in 2021. In fact, in 2022, she won back-to-back tennis matches on just two occasions, which shows how much of a downfall she suffered in just a year.

Since taking the break, the player got engaged to Arthur Borges, and she has utilized this time to spend quality time with her friends and family. Upon being asked about her possible return to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Muguruza said that she was finding competitions extremely difficult and that she really needed this break. She also said that she has not decided anything about returning to court yet.

I have taken a break, a sabbatical year. It was good for me, I needed it. The competition and the trips are very hard. We have to see how the issue of playing, not playing, develops. I let time pass and that's it. Little by little.

Garbine Muguruza has had the same stand since last October 

There has literally been no change in Garbine Muguruza’s stand about her potential return since last time. The last time she was asked about her potential comeback was in October 2023, the Spaniard said that she was spending her time sleeping, resting, and enjoying herself with her loved ones.

Today I have no intention of returning. My plan right now is to sleep, rest, be with my loved ones, make up for lost time. I don't see beyond what I'm doing today, tomorrow and this week. 

She took part in the Lyon Open last year, where she lost badly to Linda Noskova. Czech International beat her 6-4, 6-0.
