“Google journalism school near me,” Rennae Stubbs trolled online for misquoting Australian Open viewership figures

The Australian Open concluded successfully last Sunday. Novak Djokovic from the men’s side and Aryna Sabalenka from the women’s side were crowned champions in the latest edition. The tournament faced some hiccups midways but as they say, all’s well that ends well.

The two-week extravaganza is one of the most awaited events on the tennis calendar. The first Grand Slam of the season gives a chance to every participating player to start fresh in the new season. For fans all around the world, the tournament gives a glimpse of beautiful Australian summer with clear blue skies over Melbourne.

Talking about the fans, the viewership of the 2023 edition of the Australian Open has given some disappointing news. It has dropped compared to the earlier editions. And, when the comparison between viewership of men’s and women’s matches is concerned, it remains higher for the men’s competition.

But as far as Rennae Stubbs, the noted tennis journalist, is concerned, she got the facts wrong on Twitter. Which gave the fans a reason to troll her.

On Thursday, Stubbs posted some facts about the viewership of the Australian Open comparing the men’s and women’s sides. “Don’t tell me Women’s sports aren’t worth sponsoring or showing on TV!” she wrote on Twitter with an image about the same. But she failed to account for the viewership of all the regions.

Later, when the fans countered her, Stubbs gave them some advice. “I love when people say “prove it”….. No you can use this little thing called google and do your own research,” she wrote while being oblivious to her mistake. This gave the social media users a reason to troll her.
