Greg Rusedski makes his Grand Slam predictions for 2023 and makes a BOLD claim over Novak Djokovic’s chances
Greg Rusedski and Novak Djokovic
Former US Open runner-up Greg Rusedski recently spoke to Prime Video about the upcoming 2023 season and also made his predictions about the same. This year, Rafael Nadal won the first two majors of the year- the Australian Open and the French Open. Novak Djokovic won Wimbledon while teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz won the US Open to become the World No.1.
Djokovic missed two majors this year due to his vaccination status- the Australian Open and the US Open. He has now been granted permission to compete in Australia next year and hence, Rusedski believes he can see Djokovic winning at least two more majors next year. He predicted that Nadal will win the French Open once again while Alcaraz has a very good chance to defend his US Open title. He also added that Holger Rune, who won the Paris Masters, can do well on the tour with the likes of Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.
“Well I see Djokovic winning at least two Majors next year,” the retired British pro told Prime Video. “I see Rafa winning the French and Alcaraz possibly defending his US Open title. Then you’ve got Rune coming in, Sinner, you’ve got all these names. Sascha Zverev is coming back from surgery so men’s tennis is in an excellent place.”
Greg Rusedski expects Novak Djokovic to win his 10th Australian Open title
When asked whether Djokovic is the favorite to win the 2023 Australian Open, Rusedski answered positively saying that he would’ve won this year too if he was allowed to play. He heaped praises on Djokovic and said that he has everything you need to win again.
“No question about it. He would’ve won it this year if he was allowed to play. He’s won it nine times, that’s his best Slam. There’s no question about it. Djokovic is just a step up, he’s just a world-class player, he’s got all the assets, he’s got everything you need,” Rusedski said.
Djokovic will travel to Australia in a couple of months despite not being vaccinated as his ban is lifted. He will compete at the Australian Open for his record 10th AO crown.
