According to Greg Rusedski, the retirements of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal should not be a cause of concern for the world of tennis as the ‘complete’ Carlos Alcaraz embodies the qualities of the Big Three in one player. Rusedski made this bold assertion after Alcaraz’s impressive victory, highlighting his potential as a future tennis star.

Last week, the Spanish tennis player reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking following a dominant performance at Indian Wells, where the 19-year-old remarkably defeated the in-form Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win the title. With Federer having already retired from the sport at the end of last year, the tennis world is now bracing for the eventual departures of Djokovic and Nadal, who are both in the final stages of their illustrious careers.

Speaking about Alcaraz to The Times, Rusedski said, “He’s the most technically complete player I’ve ever seen at 19. He’s almost like a combination of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic rolled into one. Everyone worried about what’d happen after the ‘Big Three’ are gone. Well, Carlitos showed up.”

According to former British No. 1, the tennis world can rest assured that the retirements of Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal will not leave a void, as Carlos Alcaraz embodies the qualities of all three tennis legends in one player. However, he believes that Alcaraz is a promising talent who has the potential to be the complete package on the court.

Carlos Alcaraz maintained his impressive form on Sunday by defeating Dusan Lajovic 6-0, 7-6(7-5) to advance to the fourth round of the Miami Open and continue his pursuit of the ‘Sunshine Double’ title. The current World No. 1 and defending champion of the tournament has made a seamless transition to the faster conditions in Miami after his triumph at Indian Wells.

Alcaraz showcased his aggressive approach on return and remarkable court coverage to overpower his opponent with a high-quality display of tennis. In order to maintain his position at the top in the ATP Rankings, Alcaraz must secure his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami. However, failing to do so could result in Novak Djokovic overtaking him. Alcaraz’s next opponent in his title defense campaign will be Tommy Paul.

Meanwhile, Tommy Paul advanced to the fourth round of the Miami Open for the first time in his career. He defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. If the 19-year-old manages to secure another title in Miami, he will become the youngest male player to achieve the ‘Sunshine Double’. The last player to achieve this feat was Roger Federer, who won both the Indian Wells and Miami Open titles in 2017.
