Bulgarian player Grigor Dimitrov recently cleared his stance on the rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, which was hands down the prime tennis rivalry in 2023. The four Grand Slam titles were shared between these two players this year, wherein the Serb won three (Australian Open, French Open, and US Open) and Alcaraz won one (Wimbledon).
Dimitrov faced both players this year and thus he was one of those people who could have a neutral stand in this discussion. The Bulgarian believes that there is no comparison between these two players to begin with.
Both Alcaraz and Djokovic are very different players, belonging to different generations. They are the two very best players in the world right now and rather than comparing them, fans should cherish their rivalry. He is also certain of the fact that their rivalry will get even more intense and exciting next year.
There is nothing to compare, they are completely different players, different generations. They played differently and did different things, but they were the two best players in the world, along with a few others. This is where we are today and next year it will be even more exciting.Dimitrov via Gulf News (H/T: We Love Tennis)
The Bulgarian ace finished 14th in the ATP rankings this season. His best performance of the season came in the finals of the 2023 Paris Masters, where he was defeated by Djokovic. While Dimitrov was unable to beat Djokovic, he has beaten Carlos Alcaraz this season. He did so in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Shanghai Masters.
