World No. 17 tennis player Grigor Dimitrov took inspiration from Gael Monfils to register a slam-dunk winner against Stefanos Tsitsipas. With a semi-final match against the Greek, Dimitrov is proving that he still has the form to play on the big stages.
Grigor Dimitrov holds a career-high ranking of World No. 3. He made consecutive semi-final appearances at the Shanghai Masters and the Paris Masters. The Bulgarian has proven over and over that he is one of the more athletic players on the tour.
The Bulgarian is no stranger to being in the last four of the tournament. However, since his days of injury, he has struggled to find his form once again. However, he seemed to be playing his best tennis in a while when he made it to the top-4 on back-to-back occasions.
In a display of pure talent, the former World No. 3 hit a slam-dunk winner against his Greek opponent. However, this has been a trend in the Bulgarian’s game. He had also made a similar shot in a previous match.
However, Dimitrov seems to be taking inspiration from Gael Monfils. Monfils has often been seen hitting similar shots to register winners against his opponents. The World No. 17 player appears to be seeking motivation from the Frenchman as he makes his way through the Masters tournament.
This is not the first time the Bulgarian has competed in the semi-finals of a Major tournament. He won his first and only Masters 1000 title at the Cincinnati Masters in 2017. He also won the ATP Finals title in the same year.
The 2017 season was one of the best years of his career, where he reached his career-high ranking. However, he seems to have been in a bit of a slump the past few years. Nevertheless, his performances in Shanghai and Paris seem to indicate to the tennis world that he is on the verge of gaining his form back.
Grigor Dimitrov wins the semi-final match against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Paris Masters
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final match of the Paris Masters. In an amazing display, the former World No. 3 managed to win after a grueling three sets. He defeated the Greeks with a score of 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.
This will be the former World No. 3 first final of a Masters 1000 final after his title-winning campaign at the Cincinnati Masters in 2017. While he has made quite a few semi-final appearances since then, this will be his chance at winning a second Masters 1000 title.
He will wait for the semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev to find out who his final opponent will be. However, both players will be tough to compete against. Dimitrov will have to play his best tennis if he hopes to lift the cup.
