Croat Borna Coric stunned the world by winning the Cincinnati Masters last week against all the odds. He stunned 5 seeded players en route to his title triumph which also included some heavyweights like Rafael Nadal, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Cameron Norrie. In the final, he stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 7-6(0),6-2 to win his first Masters title.

Before the Cincinnati control, Coric was ranked outside the Top 150 and with his title triumph, he broke into the Top 30 and is currently the World No.29 with 1360 points. He will be a seeded player for the upcoming US Open. Naturally, the Croat received a lot of praises from all over the world but the most special one has to be from 21-time grand slam champion Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic took to Instagram to laud Coric for his maiden Masters triumph. He wrote that the Croat totally deserved this title and that his hard work and patience has finally paid off. Djokovic also wished him luck for the rest of the season. “Bravo, King! Totally deserved. All the hard work and patience paid off. Keep going and good luck,” Djokovic wrote.

Novak Djokovic is currently unvaccinated and doesn’t intend to take the Covid vaccine. As of now, unvaccinated people cannot enter the US borders, and hence it looks likely that the Serbian maestro will miss this year’s US Open. However, he is still on the entry list and is still hopeful for a last-minute rule change by the CDC.
