“Have doubts about his athleticism” German medical specialist accuses Rafael Nadal of doping
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal has rewritten history as he became the oldest winner (aged 36 years) of the French Open. Nadal broke his own record of winning the French Open 13-times, as he claimed the title for the fourteenth time in 2022. This achievement becomes much more remarkable and iconic considering Rafa has recently recovered from the rib injury and was also suffering from foot pain, which started making its presence felt during the Italian Open 2022.
Nadal was also in quite a lot of pain after his match against Corentin Moutet, in the French Open 2022. Nadal had revealed that he had to take a lot of painkillers and anti-inflammatories for just practice sessions. He also said revealed that his doctors decided to numb the sensory nerve in the foot so that he could still have his movement, but the pain would be very less. The doctors injected Rafa’s foot to numb the sensory nerve and he was able to move well enough to win the tournament.
However, many people don’t buy Rafa’s story. They say that it could also be that he is just doping because it’s seemingly impossible for someone with a numb foot to win the tournament. Others have outright accused him of using Performance Enhancing Drugs, one such individual is a German doping specialist, Dr. Fritz Zergel from the Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research in Nuremberg.

Dr. Zergel has lasting doubts about what Rafael Nadal is doing
It’s an enormous feat, winning a Grand Slam and winning it with a numb foot becomes all the more impressive and so Dr. Fritz Zergel proceeds to explain his stance on Rafa in an interview with German Sport 1. In an interview with Germany’s Sport 1, he said: “Anabolic steroids are a classic in tennis. So I’m not surprised. I’ve been following developments for decades and I have a clear picture of everything. Tennis is in the top four sports when it comes to doping, in addition to winter sports, athletics and cycling,“
He continued: “Rafael Nadal is showing signs of abnormality. I have a lasting doubt about what he’s doing and about the regeneration and his whole athleticism. Also, he comes from Spain, a country not known to adequately “follow” its heroes.”
The doctor further continues on how the tennis stars cover up the whole mess, saying: “All of them are well-advised, so there are no irregularities. In addition, the association protects its stars. It never gets out, it never goes public and you can never comment, just to doubt it.”
It would be quite a news if there is even the slightest truth in the doctor’s statement, otherwise, it’s just speculation that proves how astounding Rafa’s achievements are.
