“He broke the law” Andy Murray supports Boris Becker’s prison verdict, says the German should not get ‘special treatment’

Andy Murray and Boris Becker
3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray is one of the most candid personalities in the tennis world and his honesty this time has come as quite a shocker to many. Murray gave his personal point of view on the Boris Becker verdict that was announced just a few days ago in the UK. As per the verdict, Becker has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for failing to submit his trophies and other assets in the bankruptcy case and the court found him guilty of hiding assets.
As per the BBC, Becker hid £2.5m worth of assets and loans to avoid paying debts when he had to repay £50m when he was found to be bankrupt. After completing his prison sentence, Becker will be under surveillance completing his sentence on a license. As per The Mirror, Borish might actually serve only 10 months with the remainder of his sentence completed with an electronic tag. With many tennis fans and players saddened to hear the fate of the former World No. 1, Murray was not on the same terms.
“I didn’t really feel particularly emotional about it. He broke the law and if you do that, I don’t think you should get special treatment because of who you are or what you’ve achieved. Again, I feel sorry that he’s in that situation, but I also feel sorry for the people that he’s affected with his decisions as well and what’s happened to them. I hope he’s okay and that he learns from his mistakes. But I didn’t have a particular emotion about it,” said Murray as per the reports of Express UK.
Andy Murray to return to clay after nearly 2 years

Murray last played in a match on clay courts in his first-round defeat at the 2020 French Open losing to Stan Wawrinka in straight-sets. Murray skipped the entire Clay season in 2021 and had initially planned to do so in the 2022 season as well. But in a shocking turn of events, he accepted the wildcard to play in the 2022 Madrid Masters returning to the surface after 20 months. Murray will take on Dominic Thiem in the first round in Madrid in what will be the 5th meeting between the two Grand Slam champions.
