“He butchered Roger’s backhand” Marc Rosett praises Rafael Nadal’s forehand, terming it ‘hellish’ for players to face
Marc Rosset, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are two of the biggest names in tennis. They are among the most complete players of the game. Both have been at the pinnacle of the sport for decades. They have contrasting styles, but they are equally lethal in their shotmaking capabilities and are well balanced on both their forehand and backhand sides.
Rafael Nadal has dogged defiance and chases every ball like it’s his last point. He also has a very powerful forehand which every opponent wants to see very little of. Roger Federer on the other side of the spectrum, has an exquisite backhand. The single-handed backhand might be vulnerable to some powerful forehands, but it has served the swiss quite well throughout his distinguished career.
Marc Rosett, the former world number 9 and French Open semifinalist chose between which of the players he would like to face.
“I would’ve been ridiculous against Rafael Nadal” Marc Rosett.
The French newspaper Lequipe includes a part on hell and paradise, in which a past player chooses an opponent from today’s generation with whom he would have had heaven or hell. In a section, as answered by Rosett, he said:
“It seems relatively clear to me. Especially on clay. Remember my setback? Well, well, that’s it, it sums it all up! When you see how he martyred Roger on the backhand side, and I’m far from having Roger’s backhand… It would have been a butcher’s shop. There are a lot of players I wouldn’t have been ridiculous against but against Nadal, the bill could have been severe.”
Marc Rosett feels that he and Roger have similar styles so it might have been possible for him to match Federer as he chose the former world number 1 as paradise. Rosett believes that since he doesn’t have Roger’s brilliant backhand which was still shattered by Nadal, it would be hell for him to face Rafa.
