“He did for legacy!” Billionaire Bill Ackman reveals Novak Djokovic’s reasons for starting PTPA

Billionaire Bill Ackman and Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, the former world number one and one of the greatest players of all time had a very tough year when he was denied participation in two out of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year due to his ‘unvaccinated‘ status as he had a firm stance of not getting the vaccine anytime soon. He had to withdraw his participation from the 2022 US Open failing to comply with the US mandates and guidelines to enter the country.
He had already skipped playing at the hard-court tournaments that lead up to the US Open. It all started after his deportation from Australia even after entering the country and hence failed to defend his title in the Australian Open. He even failed to defend his title at the French Open losing to the eventual winner Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.
There was a significant drop in his rankings as he was no more present in the Top 5 of the ATP rankings. But things got better, when he went on to win his 7th Wimbledon title and his 21st title overall at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship defeating Nick Kyrgios in his maiden singles major final. With the win, he remains undefeated for a consecutive four years.
“He deserves credit!” Bill Ackman lauds Novak Djokovic for setting up PTPA

Djokovic was supposed to make his comeback on the ATP Tour at the Davis Cup but opted out citing personal reasons. He is likely to make his comeback at the Laver Cup in the star-studded Team Europe. Djokovic along with Vasek Pospisil founded the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) which is an association of male and female tennis players.
Billionaire Bill Ackman got involved with tennis after he became an investor and advisor for the PTPA. Ackman applauded the 21-time Grand Slam champion for starting such an organization. He said “Actually, Novak deserves credit for setting up the PTPA. He stepped back after I got involved and Pospisil has been leading the charge for the PTPA. But what I quickly realized is we wouldn’t make this organization work as a philanthropic organization.“
Ackman further added that “Novak is not an investor in the entity, in fact, we’re returning the capital to people (players) who put up capital to start the PTPA. This is for all of the players. Novak Djokovic needs this organization the least, he didn’t start this for himself, he did it for legacy reasons, he knows about how hard it is.“
