“He does not deserve a penny of the Wimbledon prize money,” Renowned journalist blasts Novak Djokovic for risking lives due to his ‘unvaccinated’ status
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic won his 7th Wimbledon title last week by beating Nick Kyrgios in the final of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic now has 21 majors to his name and is one major clear of Roger Federer and just one behind Rafael Nadal who holds the No.1 spot. This was Djokovic’s first major title of the year as he had to miss the Australian Open due to his vaccination status and lost to Nadal in the quarterfinals of the French Open.
This may very well be his last major of the year. As things stand today, he isn’t allowed to travel to the USA and hence will miss the US Open due to his vaccination status. There are many people who’ve condemned this decision of imposing a ban on Djokovic but there have been some people who term this as a just decision.
Washington Post journalist Benjamin Butterworth has been very vocal about Djokovic risking lives by not taking the Covid vaccine. A few days ago, he said that Djokovic doesn’t deserve a penny of the Wimbledon prize money he received as he was very selfish not to get vaccinated. He also said that by not getting shot, the Serb has shown no respect to his fellow tennis players and tennis fans.
“Novak Djokovic does not deserve a penny of the Wimbledon prize money. He was selfish not to get vaccinated and if we all followed his example there would be no tennis tournaments. He has shown no respect to his fellow tennis players and tennis fans,” Butterworth said.

He added that Djokovic should donate the entire prize money to charity for people in need and the families of Covid victims so as to make amends for his actions.
“Djokovic should donate the entire prize money to charity for people in need and the families of Covid victims. This could be just one of many ways to make amends,” he said.
