Rafael Nadal is the ‘epitome of hard work and the spirit of never giving up’ and that was displayed in his last game as he won the quarter-finals at the Wimbledon 2022 against Taylor Fritz by 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10/4) to book his place in the semi-finals only to withdraw his name from contention due to an abdominal tear that he picked up during the quarter-finals of the tournament.
It has been a year filled with injuries for Nadal, he came so close to retiring earlier from his chronic foot pain before being hit by a rib stress fracture and now has been forced to withdraw from the ongoing 2022 Wimbledon tournament due to the abdominal injury, Nadal’s determination and the comebacks he makes despite so many injuries are second to none and he keeps displaying the never give up spirit which makes him a true legend of the sport.
“Rafa can’t think of giving up in the face of difficulty” Toni Nadal appreciates nephew Rafael Nadal after his exit from the 2022 Wimbledon
Toni Nadal was full of praise for his nephew Rafael Nadal after his withdrawal from the 2022 Wimbledon, Toni wrote, “His style of play has always been based on finding solutions to change the trajectory of a match, whether the difficulties are caused by his opponents or by his own problems. Rafael can’t think of giving up in the face of difficulty, just because he’s not used to it. This time it couldn’t be the case and finally what for everyone was very predictable happened.
He added, “Playing the semi-final of a Grand Slam with a rupture in the abdominal area is an impossible task. Rafael decided to withdraw from the tournament, but I think he made it clear, once again, his intention not to leave until he had exhausted all possibilities and maintained his iron commitment, the one that will encourage you to recover and enthusiastically face the US Open.”
Nadal expects to be back in training in a week and reach full fitness within a month, after beating Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals, Nadal was scheduled to face Nick Kyrgios today in the semi-finals of the 2022 Wimbledon but the withdrawal gave Kyrgios a walkover in the finals where he will face the winner of the second semi-finals.
