“He hasn’t competed for two years” David Ferrer feels Roger Federer will fail at his comeback this year

Former world number 1 Roger Federer was last seen on the court 9 months ago in the Wimbledon 2021 where he lost in the quarterfinals against Hubert Hurkacz. After that, he underwent knee surgery and was out of action since then. Everyone is waiting for his comeback as he was considered one of the GOAT in the game.

We have seen Roger back on the court practising. Since the pictures he uploaded on social media his fans are eager to watch him play competitive tennis. We can expect to see him in Wimbledon 2022 which is scheduled for June. He will have enough time to practice and get his form back and compete for his 21st grand slam title and his 9th Wimbledon title.

Former Spanish tennis player David Ferrer, a former colleague of Roger however believes otherwise. In recent reports by Express UK, Ferrer said, “I’m not saying Roger can’t be close to winning a Grand Slam, but he hasn’t competed for two years, He won’t be seeded and he’ll have to play against top-tier players and that wears you out physically.”

Can Roger Federer make a similar comeback like 2017?

Roger suffered a knee injury in 2016 and made his return at the beginning of 2017. He won the Australian Open, Indian Wells, and then Miami Masters to complete the Sunshine Double for the third time in his career. He won the Wimbledon capturing his eighth title. He returned to the number 1 position that same year. He successfully defended the Australian open again claiming his 20th grand slam title.

However this year it is not going to be the same as Roger will be 41 this August. He is not in the top rankings having slipped out of the top-40 rankings due to this knee injury. He wasn’t able to play the Australian Open in January this season. This led his all-time rival, Rafael Nadal, to win the 21st grand slam leaving Roger and Djokovic back in the race.
