Wilander said that this French Open victory must be Rafa’s sweetest because a couple of months ago, he didn’t even know whether he’ll be there or not in Paris. He added that keeping beside that he now has 14 French Open titles, we should focus on his 22 grand slam tally. By winning the 2022 French Open, Nadal now is two majors ahead of his arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer which ultimately give him an edge in the GOAT debate.

“I would think it must be the sweetest title [that Rafa has won at Roland-Garros]. First of all, he didn’t even know if he was going to be able to play. Let’s now not just focus on 14 [French Open titles], but 22 [Grand Slam singles titles]. He is ahead of Roger and Novak now. Maybe this could be the main reason why he will be the greatest player of all time. But again, he’s so humble and so in the present moment that it sounds like he is going to keep going,” he said.
